There are so many ways that bike riding can boost your mood: theirs the basic release of adrenalin and endorphins, and the improved confidence that comes from achieving new things (such as completing a sportive or getting closer to that goal).

Biking is a great way to improve your strength, balance and coordination. It may also help to prevent falls and fractures. Riding a bike is an ideal form of exercise if you have osteoarthritis, because it is low-impact exercise that place little stress on your joints.

The resistance element of riding means that it does’t just burn fat: it also builds muscle – particularly around the gluts, hamstrings, quads, and calves. Muscle is leaner than fat, and people with a higher percentage of muscle burn more calories even when sedentary.

To get into biking you have to consider your safety. With anything, their are always a chance that something can happen. There are states that require a bike rider to wear a helmet for their safety. “When” I was child their was no law requiring a person to wear a helmet when riding a bike.

Biking is fun, for those who know how to ride a bike. But for those who never rode a bike before may believe they could never learn to ride a bike. Beginners have to do one thing, to try to get over the fear of getting on a bike and falling.

Children never seem to be afraid to try anything for the first time, so riding a bicycle comes a little easier for them than it does for an adult. When a child falls off a bike they just get back up and jump on the bike again, of course children just seem to absorb falls better than grown-ups. So when riding your bike obey the laws and ride in designated areas for bike.

Biking Tips For Beginners

Learning to ride a bike can be a scary thing for beginners, whether you are a child or an adult. Beginners want to have a bike that fits their body. When a rider sits on their bike they should be able to put both feet flat on the ground or floor if you are inside a building, the rider should balance the bike and their body without tipping the bike to the side.

Sit on the bike and get used to the feel of the bike. You can take your feet off the petals and try to the balance the bike without letting the bike tip over or falling from the bike. Get the feel for the handlebars by grabbing them with both hands and moving handlebars side to side.

Get a feel for the bike by putting both feet on the ground or floor and push the bike forward and backward while practicing how to use the hand and foot brakes. You can do this for several minutes till you get comfortable with the feel of the bike.

Bikes come with either foot brakes or with handlebar brakes. Foot brakes is when you use your right foot to stop the bike from moving. Handlebar brakes are on your handlebars. Some bikes come with just foot brakes or with handlebar brakes or even with both types brakes.

Find a good location where you can practice riding your bike. Take someone who knows how to ride a bike to go with you. I mentioned safety is important, always wear footwear that won’t let your feet from slipping off the petals.

Whether you are an adult or a child wear the proper clothing when riding a bike. There are helmets, gloves, sunglasses and elbow and knee guards and even footwear available to protect the rider from injuries.

The Right Bike

Choosing the right bike depends on what kind of riding you want to do. Whether you are a male or female. Where you want to ride the bike, and the type of road you like to ride your bike on.

Children should ride a bike that fits their body frame. Smaller bikes like 12 – inch, 16 – inch, the 20 – inch are for smaller riders. The bigger bikes are meant for the taller riders, like the 24 – inch, 26 – inch and the 28 – inch bikes. Smaller children should stay off the bigger bikes as they could be unsafe for the child.

There many types and styles and makes of bikes. The difference between a bike for a female or for a male is the top bar. The area between the handlebar and the seat, if their is no bar than the bike is meant for a female. A bike with the top bar is for a male. But their are riders that does not matter to them.

The right bike will make you feel comfortable. The rider should be able to reach the handlebar without a problem, sit on the seat and be able to put both feet flat on the ground. Height of the handlebar and the seal are also important.

There are bikes for racing, bikes for mountain riding, bikes for the roads, cyclocross bikes, urban bikes. These are just a few of bikes that are available for you to choose from.

It all depends on what kind of bike riding you choose to do. If your a beginner than start out on a bike that will be easy for you to control and ride with ease.

  1. I loved this post because it reminded me when I first learnt how to ride a bike.
It was the best thing ever because I only found out that their were certain bikes good for certain structures especially for those who want to be competitive.
So I do agree with your thoughts of body size and structure for racing.

  2. Thank you for your sharing. It’s very informative. I don’t even realise there are so many things we can wear when riding on a bike, e.g. helmets, knee guards, etc.
